Given the habits of previous years, this year’s Apple event is expected to be held on September 6 or 13. Like in 2020 and 2021, the conference was held online with high probability. Among them iPhone 14, Airpods Pro 2, and Apple Watch 8 series. So, what should we expect from these new Apple products? Let’s find out.
Apple introduced the 5.4-inch iPhones in a bid to accommodate users who like compact devices. However, the sales have been low. And as such, Apple is eliminating them from its line of iPhones. Going forward, the company will only produce 6.1-inch iPhones.
We, therefore, expect a 6.1-inch iPhone14, 14 Pro, Max, and Pro Max. Another feature Apple will be eliminating is the notch. This is where the Face ID camera was located. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s analyst, the iPhone 14 will have two cutouts for the Face ID.
They’ll place the Face 1D dot projector in the circular cutout while the front camera and other components will be in the pill-shaped cutout. It is also expected Apple will place other Face ID components beneath the screen. This is in a bid to increase the screen surface. Unfortunately, the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will have the notch.
Another addition to the iPhone 14 series is the ProMotion display technology. This will be available in the iPhone 14 Pro models only. The iPhone 14 models do not house this technology due to a lack of necessary displays, according to Ross Young, Apple’s display analyst. The Pro versions will also house the Always-on display technology.
The design of the iPhone 14 is similar to that of the iPhone 13 models. As expected, it will have flat edges giving it a rather boxy shape. The chassis is also similar to the 13 models. Unfortunately, it will also have the rear camera bump, which most leakers claimed would be absent.
For color options, the iPhone 14 is expected to come in purple color. Rumors say that the purple shade color will change depending on the lighting conditions. The iPhone 14Max will likely come in red, blue, white, and black. The Pro Max will likely come in purple, gold, and graphite.
AirPods Pro 2
While the AirPods receive minimal updates since their introduction in 2019, this year seems to be different. It is rumored that the AirPods Pro 2 won’t have a stem. Remember the AirPods Pro has a shorter stem compared to the normal AirPods.
Apple is eliminating the stem component to the AirPods more compact and comfortable according to Bloomberg. It is also rumored the company is set to give the AirPods Pro 2 a rounded shape. Well, this would make them look similar to some of the popular earbuds such as Google Pixel and Samsung Pixel Buds.
However, it is unclear if Apple will follow through with the idea. Much of the redesign is on the charging case. According to images received by MacRumors, the case has speaker holes at the bottom and a spot to hook a lanyard.
The inbuilt speakers are likely compatible with Find My feature, allowing the user to locate them even when there are no AirPods. It will likely play a sound when you activate the feature. Rumors also suggest that the AirPods Pro will come with the advanced H1 chip, giving better sound clarity. You can also expect exception noise cancellation.
Some rumors suggest the AirPods will detect your heart rate and body temperature. However, these are unverified claims. What is verified is that they will come with skin sensors, which are in the AirPods 3. Another upgrade in the AirPods Pro is the Apple Lossless audio (ALAC), according to Kuo.
Previous AirPods series do not have this feature, hence relay on ACC codec, compatible with Bluetooth. This means Apple will need to develop a new means of connection since high-quality ALAC files do not support Bluetooth.
Unfortunately, the AirPods Pro 2 will not come with the much-awaited USB-C connector, according to Kuo. They will feature the conventional lightning port. However, future AirPods will likely come with the feature as Apple gears towards introducing USB-C on its iPhones.
Apple Watch 8 Series
As the release of the Apple Watch 8 Series nears, assumptions and rumors are awash on the internet. Leakers suggest the Apple Watch 8 Series will come with a flat display glass. However, it won’t have flat edges, as most people anticipated. The overall design of the series will be similar to that of the 7 series.
What distinguishes the two is their sizes. The Apple Watch 8 Series will measure 1.99 inches up from 1.901 inches. As such, the 8 Series will have a larger display. It will also come with an S8 chip, which is similar to the S7 found in the Apple Watch 7 Series. This means performance will be similar.
While performance remains similar, the Apple Watch 8 Series will allow you to do more for longer. This is thanks to the Low-Power mode that preserves battery power.
It is also rumored the Apple Watch will have health features such as diabetes and sleep apnea detection as well as sleep tracking. It is however unclear if Apple will introduce all the features in the Apple Watch 8 Series.
The Apple Watch will however not feature the rugged design aimed at athletes, hikers, and other people who work in extreme weather. Instead, Apple will introduce Apple Watch 8 Series alongside the rugged model.
Some of the future features expected in Apple Watches include monitoring of blood glucose, measuring blood pressure, and connecting to satellites.
